Family History in Wisconsin
John and Maria Elizabeth emigrated
to the U.S. in 1854. In 1856 they settled in the town of Mosel, Sheboygan
County, Wisconsin. County records show the following land purchases:
Volume "W" page 537: 3 May, 1856,
Lorens Schaf & wife Ernstine of Sheboygan County to John Lummerding
of the same place, the east 30 acres of the west one-half of the southeast
quarter of Section 17, Town 16 North. Range 23 east (Town Mosel). $500
paid, Warranty deed. Recorded May 3. 1856.
Volume 7 page 533: 20 September,
1859, Nicholas Trutschel to Johann Lummerding all of Sheboygan County,
state of Wisconsin, the east one-half of the east one half of the northwest
quarter of Section 20, TI6N R23E, 40 acres more or less for $500. Warranty
deed. Recorded Sept. 20,1859.
These lands are approximately
5 miles north of the present city of Sheboygan.
In 1874, county records describe
the sale of the farmland. Volume 38 page 330: 24 Oct. 1874, John
Lummerding and wife Maria Elizabeth of Town Mosel, Sheboygan County, to
Fedder Hinrichson of the same place, the east part of the W 1/2 SE 1/4
Section 17, 30 acres of land more or less, plus E 1/2 E 1/2 NW 1/4 Section
20. 40 acres more or less, all in town 16 North, Range 23 east Crown Mosell.
$3200.00 warranty deed. Recorded 30 October 1874. Signed Johann
Lummerding and Maria E. Lummerding.
The family moved 5 miles north
to a farm 1 1/2 miles west of Cleveland, Town Centerville in Manitowoc
County.
